Hortus Gateway

Four carved towers at Central and Lawn Ave invite visitors with symmetrical illumination. Designed with Mount Auburn’s horticulture team, they feature flora and forms unique to the Cemetery. Representing balance, endurance, renewal, and longevity, the towers embrace each visitor’s arrival through interactive light, marking their journey into Mount Auburn’s gardens and landscapes.
In Stillness

There are many ways for Mount Auburn visitors to remember, reflect, meditate, or grieve, and many of these experiences include a pause, a moment of quiet — of stillness. This artwork meets us in our moments of stillness; holding space for these thoughts, memories, and prayers—dancing with us as we exchange, giving and receiving.
Eclipse

This artwork is inspired by the celestial phenomenon of an eclipse, evoking the iconic image at an intimate scale. The suspended black disc, halo of light, haze, and imagined soundscape are arranged to accentuate the notion of lightness, eclipsed by darkness, giving way to lightness again. The artwork is an invitation to pause, meditate, and envelop yourself within this passage of light.
Cosmic Breath

This artwork extends a gentle invitation to connect with the vastness of the cosmos during the winter solstice, creating space for reflection and mindful breathing with the rhythms of a celestial landscape. The illuminated facade reveals its own star, which expands across the cosmos before returning back home to Bigelow Chapel — reminding us how both distant and close we are to the spirit of the universe.
Sweet Sweet Auburn

Nature has a poetic rhythm and offers us joy and tranquility through its complex design and many cycles. Mount Auburn, as a garden and arboretum, beautifully embodies this rhythm, from the towering trees shedding leaves in autumn to the vibrant floral blooms of spring. This artwork draws on that essence, incorporating local species of trees and plants to evoke metaphors for light, growth, and death.
